^The 11th paratrooper brigade was created in 1999 from the 11th paratrooper division.
It gathers all the paratrooper regiments of the French army. The brigade is a combined arms unit, with a
majority of infantry, specialized in airborne operation. It is equipped with specific light armored vehicle, artillery
and engineers. The brigade is always ready to leave for urgent mission, anywhere in the world. During the 20 last
years, the brigade has taken part in the operation in Congo, Tchad, Lebanon, Iraq during the first Gulf War,
former Yugoslavia (Bosnia, Macedonia, and Kosovo). The 8000 men and women of the brigade are divided
between 8 regiments: 1st RCP (Chasseur Paratroopers), 3rd and 8th RPIMA (Paramarines), 2nd REP (Foreign Legion paratroopers),
1st RHP (hussar paratroopers), 35th RAP (Artillery), 17th RGP (Engineers), and 1st RTP (Logistics). French paratroopers are
equipped with the FAMAS rifle, and ERC 90 Sagaie armored vehicles. They all wore the red beret since 1957, except
the 2nd REP, which has kept the green beret of the Legion.
